19 Valuable Lessons I’ve Learned In 19 Years Of Living
I just turned 19 today. Wow, happy birthday to me.
Wow, can you believe it? I’m an abnormal guy and I just survived 19 long years. Wohuu! I did nothing special this birthday but working on TeenageHack. No Party, No Blast, No Awesomeness. But hey, I’m more than happy. Wait, what?
Yes, I’m the happiest person in the world. And you’ll get to know why as you read the post.
Here are the 19 things that my life had taught me till date, which I value the most.
Happiness Is A Choice:
I remember the day when I was called by the principal because of the continuous complaints from my teachers stating that “I didn’t give a shit about studies nor about that career-guidance-class“. I was 15. And he asked me this question: “What do you want to be when you grow up“. Well, there’s only one thing I wanted to be. I said: “I want to be happy when I grow up“.
He was like, “Oh no kid, you have to study to be happy. And you’ve to get yourself a job, make money“. I couldn’t do anything but nod my head to him. But now, if I get a chance to see him again, the first thing I want to tell him is that he was wrong. “I don’t have a stable job yet, I didn’t study well. But yet, I’m happy.”
Happiness is a choice. It’s about how you perceive and interpret the things happening to and around you.
When it rains, you can either choose to be sad because you know you’re going to be late for office OR you can choose to be happy by enjoying the nature’s magical creation. Listen to its sound, observe the change in atmosphere, be happy by wondering how beautiful the rain is. That’ll be my choice.
Gratitude is the key to happiness.
There’s no stopping it. It’s the law of nature that bad things will happen. No matter who you are, no matter how determined you are or no matter who you think you are, Shit Happens.
If you’re a person who knows me well very close, you know you can picture me as the perfect living example.
While you learn, while you grow, while you make and while you live – Shit Happens. You might fall so hard to the ground that you’ll think it’s the end of the world. But hey, it seems the world doesn’t end at all. So, brace yourself and know that bad things happening is just a part of your life.
Give & Take. The more you give, the more you get. For me, that sounded like total bullshit some years ago. But, it ain’t. In fact, it is one of the biggest truth about social life.
My friend Ryan Biddulph is the one from whom I learned about Karma. It really doesn’t sounded practical at first. But he’s a person whom I admire the most, which made me try it out for myself.
And guess what? It works. You can’t expect people to do what you want, be nice to you or give you things by being an asshole. First, you’ve to learn how to give, without thinking about the returns. And that’s when good things will start to happen.
People Wear Masks:
That guy who’s working with you on that current project nor that friend of yours who keeps on smiling, isn’t who you think they are. People does wear masks. You cannot judge anyone at all, no matter what.
The bitter truth is that, you’re alone in this ride and putting complete trust on others is the worst thing you can do to yourself. — Amal Rafeeq (@ZionAmalRafeeq) May 20, 2015
I’m sad to tell you that there’s this guy who used to be my best friend, whom I trusted the most that I told him all about my business plans and strategies. Well, I was too late to understand the fact that he is that person who doesn’t want to see me touch the success line at all. In fact, he even tries to push my down. A pure backstabber.
Well, you never know what or who people around you are in real. So, never expect too much, ever!
There Will Be Always Haters:
When I first started out with blogging, there were people who were like “Dude, that’s not gonna work” and even who spoke behind my back. There will be always people who is jealous or doesn’t want you to be successive in life. Just like the guy I told you about in the above lesson.
But hey, why do you even care? You shouldn’t! Haters are gonna hate. Just do your job,
Success Is The Sweetest Revenge:
There’s a good chance that you must be planning to argue with me saying that “revenge is purely evil”. Yes, it is. But, you sure have to unleash your evil side to pay back to the asshole who deserve it.
But whoa, wait a second. Don’t shoot em’ in the head or try to run a truck over them.
The best way to take your revenge is to become successful in life. Well, that’s not illegal nor harmful. And I’m telling you, it sure is the sweetest of them all.
That asshole I told you about is probably reading this post. And for him: “Dude, start the countdown. You’re gonna see me where you don’t want see me at all. I’m your biggest nightmare now. The countdown starts now dude!”
Where You Are Matters A Lot:
Confused? Let me break it down to you. Your past experiences, surroundings and what you see makes who you are. Altering your environment is the best way to alter yourself.
If your company is just a bunch of lazy assholes, there’s a good chance that you’re one too. Surround yourself with the kind of people you admire. Surround yourself with positive energy. And that matters a lot.
People Don’t Actually Give A Shit:
I’ve a good friend of mine who has a lot of dreams. But, the sad part is that, she doesn’t want to follow those dreams. She is afraid of what people are gonna think. She fears criticism and questionings.
Let me tell you one thing. People don’t care at all. They just act like they do. This isn’t because they are mean or hurtful, but simply because they are mostly focused on themselves. It is your frigging life. Do what you want.
Dreams Doesn’t Work, Action Does:
One of the biggest mistake you can do with your life is to continue to be on that dream which you are now. Stop living in the fantasy world. Yes, dreams are amazing. Freedom, money, happiness, adventure, success. Wow, what more could you ask for, right?
But, you’re not gonna achieve it in your real life if you’re just going to sit back and dream. They don’t work at all. Actions does.
Suicide Is The Most Stupidest Idea:
Like I said before, if you know me really well, you probably know that I’ve been to the worst. And yes, back then, suicide did seemed like a pretty good idea. No more worries, right?
But screw that. That is the most stupidest things you can ever do. 2 years back, when I was really fed up, I did thought of ending everything. But, I admit the fact that I was scared. I was scared of death. It seemed painful.
But now, as I publish this article to my own digital magazine, I’m glad that I didn’t act stupid back then. As I told you before, shit happens. You will fail, yes. And your job is to pick yourself up and keep moving forward. Life changes constantly. Enjoy the ride. ♥
This will be a big No No for all those of you who want to stick on to their comfort zones. Taking risks sounds so dangerous. Well, that is the fun part. When you plant that flag down to the mountain of success which no one else could climb, trust me – that’s the best feeling ever.
You can choose to live as just another ordinary person. Or, you can choose to be the one who takes risks. Yes, you will fail. That’s just the process of learning. And every time you fail, consider yourself lucky. Because you just learned what went wrong.
Mistakes teach you what not to do on your next try and what’s the right thing to do. Take more risks, make more mistakes, grow!
You Create Your Own Destiny:
Someone out there who strongly believes in destiny is really angry at me right now. If you’re just another person who thinks that you have a Destiny, I’m sorry to break it to you. You’re wrong, totally. You make your own luck.
What you achieve and where you reach in the future are the results of your actions. Take actions accordingly. Hope works, luck doesn’t.
You Have Only One Shot:
I had only one shot to write this post. It’s my 19th birthday today and writing this post later on doesn’t sound like a good idea. There will be times in your life at which you’ll get only ONE SINGLE opportunity. Well, there will be always alternative ways to dodge it and you will probably come up with excuses to procrastinate.
But when you know it’s a big shot, never, ever miss it. You never know what’s gonna happen next. Always grab hold of the opportunities. And don’t wait for life to throw chances at you, successful people create their own opportunities.
Self Doubt Is Dangerous:
What would have happened if I thought “Hmm, this post doesn’t seem like a good idea” or “I don’t think this will be of any use“? Obviously, I wouldn’t have published this one.
Imagine you set off to hunt down your dreams, and on your way, you see stronger people, working their way to reach similar destinations. You’ll probably go like “Oh crap, look at them. And look at me. I don’t think I can do it“. And then, you give up.
To achieve that goal, it takes more than strength, it takes real brain – which you have, but they don’t. And in time, those people fails. But guess what? You’re the one who failed. They at least learned something, and you didn’t. Boo ya!
You’re a unique creature. Don’t try to be someone else. Just be yourself. Don’t even think about comparing yourself to someone else. That is simply IMPOSSIBLE. Never doubt yourself, ever.
Problems? Think Long Term:
Failed in an exam? Afraid to face someone? Well, yes, I agree. That’s gonna be some problem for sure. But, whenever you come across one, you gotta think long term. Ask this question yourself: “Is this problem gonna affect me after a week, a month or maybe after an year?”
The chances are they won’t. Problems are temporary. Thinking in a long term helps you to get over it. Worry not, time heals everything.
Live The Present:
You regret a lot about the past and worry a lot about the future that you forget to live the present. Take a moment, pause and think. Aren’t you just existing? Are you really living the present?
I’m sorry to question you with something that’ll make you sad. But it’s high time that you learn to live the present. Enjoy the little things. Breathe.
You Are Your Biggest Enemy:
If you look at me as a failure, blame no one else but me. I am responsible for my actions and the results I yield and suffer. The only person in this world who stands in your way to success is you yourself.
If you truly believe that you can achieve something and work on it, mark my words – you will.
Follow your guts, but not the inner Critic. You are better than who you think you are. Be proud of it.
Time Is The Most Valuable Thing:
Tick tock, tick tock. Hear the clock running fast? It’s nothing but death approaching.
Think about all those time you wasted procrastinating and doing nothing. Think about how your life would be if you had used those time to the fullest?
You’re not gonna get it back. And trust me, you will regret wasting it.
Do That One Weird Thing:
Everyone has that one or two special dream. It’s weird, it’s adventurous and it means the world to you. Maybe the society won’t accept it. But hey, who’s life is it? Yours! So you better do that.
For me, it’s jumping out of a helicopter, wearing parachute and landing somewhere and getting lost. Yes, that sounds insane. But I trust my guts that the feeling I’ll get when I accomplish it? It’ll be WOW!
Do that one weird thing
