How To Build The Habit Of Waking Up Early in Mornings

Stop hitting the snooze button of your alarm and Become the Early Birdie without anyone hitting you with a bucket full of cold water?

Warning : The stunt in the story is performed by an expert (me). Please Do Not Try this at Home, unless you seriously want to wake up early in the morning.

One out of many goals in my New Year resolution’s list is to “Wake up early in the mornings.” Early like, 5 Am or a maximum of 5:30 Am.

It sure is hard for an 18 year old lazy guy like me who used to snooze a lot of alarms and finally face the clock consciously at 7:15 in the morning.

But, I wanted to make that happen : So I put the effort to keep the shit together. And guess what? It’s working out on the first day itself.

Today, I woke up at 5:15 AM and it’s turning out to be a productive day already. I’ve cleared my Emails, replied to people at my Social Media and I’m writing this post like a piece of cake.

It is indeed helping me to keep up with my daily writing habit resolution.

So, how did I do that?

You can’t expect yourself to wake up at 5 in the morning after sleeping at 1 or 2 in the midnight. You need rest baby, you need the sleep.

I’m a person who snooze alarms no matter what. And I know that it’s because the alarm will be just a reach away from my bed. So, I placed the alarm at the top of my shelf, where I can’t reach without standing on a chair. Now that’s some serious stunt when you’re half sleepy in the morning.

I cleared my online clutters and decided not to sit and stare at my laptop until I feel sleepy. This helped me to get to bed and sleep early. I hit the bed at 10PM.

I decided NOT TO THINK a lot on the bed. This helped me to sleep right away. I kicked out my habit of planning too much for the next day.

And, the next thing I hear is the annoying sound of the alarm. Okay, it’s 5 in the morning. I can’t stand this goddamn sound and I need to snooze it or throw it outside my window.

So, I forced myself out of the bed, pushed the chair beside the shelf, somehow managed to get on the chair and finally reached out and grabbed the alarm.

By the time, my sleepy mood was almost gone. The stunt I pulled did worked and helped me to wake up. Yaay! I stopped the alarm and poured some water on my face, like a boss! ☺

So, here’s what you can do:

  1. Set up an annoying alarm tone. And place the alarm somewhere far away and where you need to pull out a stunt to reach for it. Like, rolling under the bed, climbing on your window or standing on a chair.
  2. Sleep Early and Don’t think too much while you’re trying to sleep.
  3. You don’t need to do anything else, intentionally. You got it mate
